Event information

Registrations for this event are closed.

Due to the un-scheduled closure of the St Kilda boat ramp for 6 weeks, this event has been postponed. A new date will be announced in due course, but will likely be spring 2027

Following the success of the 2025 training weekend the CYAA Committee's Victorian representatives are pleased to announce a follow up event in May 2026. Last year's inaugural event at Bendigo YC was really well received, although time on water was almost non-existent due to lack of breeze, we are hopeful that this year's event will have a much larger on water component.

The 2026 event will be held in St Kilda Melbourne, primarily at the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron, with launching/retreiving at St Kilda Marina.

Members Australia wide are welcome and encouraged to come along. St Kilda is centrally located in Melbourne allowing people to fly in if they wish.

Program Outline (will be refined closer to the event)

  • Although some may choose to arrive on the Friday, the program starts on Saturday morning at St Kilda Marina.  If time permits, we will again check rig setup with a view towards sharing knowledge when the data is collated
  • We also hope to measure any Mainsails & Genoas that are presented. The purpose is to collect data on the range of sails, hopefully informing the Rules Committee as it starts transposing the original sail plan across to the format used in the Equipment Rules of Sailing.
  • Once measured, rigged, briefed and launched, head out for a Saturday late morning sailing session culminating at RMYS. for an 'on dock' lunch
  • After lunch and a brief session on dock at RMYS head out for a Saturday Afternoon sail
  • After sailing a debrief will occur at the RMYS clubhouse
  • Saturday evening drinks/meal will be at RMYS clubhouse
  • Sunday morning will again be an on-water session with a view towards finishing early afternoon back at St Kilda Marina

Launching/Retrieving

  • Access and launching is via St Kilda Marina where parking is available for car and trailer.  After rigging and launching adjacent to the ramp, it costs $14 to access the car park and leave a car/trailer until retrieval.
  • The suggestion is to have your gear for the weekend on board your boat upon leaving St Kilda Marina (after all we will not be in lightweight racing mode - it's just a training weekend)

Berthing at RMYS

  • Berthing at RMYS will be available on Saturday night for a discounted fee of $20 per night. Sleeping on boats is welcomed. Access to RMYS facilities will be made available with marina berth booking.
    • Berths must be booked directly with RMYS by filling out this form and emailing the address on the form: RMYS Trailable Marina Booking
    • Under Additional Information state: "CYAA training weekend" so the club knows to invoice you at the discounted rate

Accomodation

  • Sleeping on boats in the RMYS marina is welcomed
  • Hotels, Air BnB's etc can be booked in St Kilda if preferred
  • People living locally may obviously choose to go home for the evening

Catering

  • Participants are encouraged to BYO Saturday Lunch so we can keep the program moving
  • Saturday evening Dinner can be purchased from the RMYS clubhouse bar
  • Sunday morning breakfast can be procured from local cafes
    • Sunday lunch could also be found at the same time
  • Following sailing on Sunday there may be a sausage sizzle at the St Kilda Marina

Costs

  • Most costs are mentioned above and can be paid by participants directly
  • The CYAA are currently trying to arrange the loan/hire of a RHIB or similar to help manage the on water sessions
    • Once known, the cost of this will be shared amongst particpants
  • Non CYAA members are welcome to attend to for an additional fee of $35
